Quick-opening manways

Quick-Opening Manways from Chase Associates open into a concrete tank (Model CM-1) or steel tank (Model CM-2) and seal an ASME flanged and dished cover against a liquid-tight, replaceable gasket. Handwheel release operates only when the tank is empty and provides access within seconds without unbolting or use of tools. The system conforms to OSHA Permit Required Confined Space Rules and includes lockout protection.

A low-profile design provides ground-level tank entry during project construction and quick access over the life of the completed tank. Units are available in mild steel or stainless steel including 304, 316 and 317 and other alloys. They are available in clear-opening sizes from 20 to 42 inches and static head ratings up to 195 feet. Units can be installed in new or existing tank structures. 888/636-9297; www.manways.com

Fabric structures

ClearSpan Fabric Structures offers design-build solutions for potable water facilities. Hercules Truss Arch Buildings feature high clearances and spacious interiors without support posts. The fabric buildings are outfitted with frames constructed of triple-galvanized structural steel. Rip-stop polyethylene covers let natural light in, eliminating daytime artificial lighting and lowering energy costs. Every building is custom engineered to fit local requirements. 866/643-1010; www.clearspan.com

Environetics Director II tank baffles

Director II tank baffles from Environetics are designed for tank-based waste treatment operations. The baffles are custom manufactured from heavy-duty reinforced geomembrane materials to improve flow patterns in new or existing circular or rectangular tanks. 815/838-8331; www.environeticsinc.com

Safety gate

The FabEnCo Self-Closing XL Series Safety Gate is an adjustable swinging gate that eliminates the time and expense of fabricating a gate to provide fall protection, as required by OSHA, at ladder, platform and stair openings, as well as catwalks, mezzanines and machine guarding. The gate, which provides additional vertical coverage, clamps on either side of a handrail and mounts on channel, angle, flatbar or pipe.

The gate is available in carbon steel, aluminum and stainless steel. Shipped complete with hardware, the gate can be installed quickly on most handrails or existing walls. Finishes include galvanized and environmentally friendly safety yellow powdercoat. Custom gates are available. 800/962-6111; www.safetygate.com

Shade balls

Floating ball covers, or shade balls, from ECC mitigate bromate formation by blocking sunlight in reservoirs. The shade balls do not require extensive construction, parts, labor or maintenance. The ball covers bring bromate levels to below U.S. government regulations, according to the company. 910/245-2241; www.eccllc.us

Tank mixer

The Tank Shark, from Process Solutions Inc. (PSI), maintains complete mixing of the tank while generating real-time water samples and automatic chlorine or chloramine injection. The mixer allows for simple installation, operation and maintenance, and installation does not require penetration in the tank or for the tank to be taken out of service. The mixer can add aqueous ammonia and bulk or onsite-generated hypochlorite. All materials used are NSF approved. 888/774-4536; www.4psi.net

Clarifier and thickener steel tankage

Hi-Tech Environmental, Inc., A Div. of Kusters Water, offers a complete line of shop- and field-erected tanks for clarifiers and thickeners. Every tank can be manufactured in accordance with API-650 and custom designed to suit each customer's needs. Materials are available in carbon and 304 and 316 stainless steel. 800/264-7005; www.kusterswater.com

Medora GridBee 120-, 240-volt tank mixers

GridBee GS-12 potable tank mixers from Medora Corp. are available with 120 and 240 V motors, providing municipalities with a low-cost option for meeting water quality standards and preventing ice damage. The mixers rest on the floor of a potable water storage tank, constantly circulating water to evenly distribute disinfectant and kill bacteria. Thorough mixing also eliminates ice damage to tanks in cold climates. 866/437-8076; www.medoraco.com

Aluminum dome design

The OptiDome from CST Covers, a division of CST Industries, is a flush batten aluminum geodesic dome design. The cover features a double web I-beam and patent pending batten seal technology that eliminates environmental exposure, UV degradation and ponding. The hub cover technology removes the need for exterior sealant at the nodes, eliminating routine maintenance and inspection requirements. 936/539-1747; www.cstcovers.com

PAC high-shear mixer

The Sodimix powdered activated carbon (PAC) dust absorption system from Sodimate eliminates dust created in dry-to-slurry processes. It pre-mixes the PAC into a wetting/agitation immersion pipe with a high-velocity shear mixer while a water eductor vacuums out suspended dust through a reverse air/water filter. During the automatic cleaning cycle, a three-way valve diverts the supply water through the air/water filter to rinse the PAC particles captured from the conveying process. The PAC filtration system can be easily mounted on existing dry-to-slurry processes. 773/665-8800; www.sodimate-inc.com

Tideflex potable water mixing system

The Tideflex Mixing System for potable water tanks from Tideflex Technologies, a division of Red Valve Company, is designed to eliminate stagnation. TMS is a combination of Tideflex check valve technology and a piping manifold that separates the inlet and outlet, eliminating dead spots where bacteria can multiply. The system can be installed in new or existing water storage tanks of all shapes and sizes. 412/279-0044; www.redvalve.com

Flat panel tanks

Flat panel bolted tanks from USA Tank Storage Systems with flat seam, field-assembled design eliminate leaky flange connections and lap gaskets in liquid tank applications. A sealant replaces all strip gaskets, reducing the possibility of bolted panel seam leaks. Tanks are erected from ground level with a jacking system, improving safety at the construction site and eliminating the need for cranes. Panels are finished at the factory with a thermal fusion bonded powder coating. 866/700-2500; www.usatanksales.com

Bottom sludge scraping

The ZICKERT Shark bottom sludge scraping system from Westech Engineering provides sludge removal in rectangular tanks and lamella plate clarifiers. The process is based on the forward and return movement of hydrodynamically designed rake sections. The concave faces of the sections transport the sediment toward a sludge pit. During the return movement, the wedge-shaped parts of the sections slide under the sludge blanket, providing continuous and unidirectional transport of the sludge.

The system can be powered by hydraulic or electric motors and provides the same results whether it is pulled or pushed. It offers simple installation and maintenance and provides complete sludge transport, leaving no dead zones and creating no turbulence. 801/265-1000; www.westech-inc.com
